Attention Readers:

It’s summertime again! Everywhere you look baseball mitts are being broken in, bicycle tires pumped up, and decks of cards shuffled and shuffled again. America loves to play, and play we will, in fields and on consoles, in woods and on waterways. And this summer, the Austin Public Library invites you to ratchet up your gaming endeavors by adding the Summer Reading Program to your tournament schedule.

Game On!, a program designed specifically to celebrate the playful pleasures of reading, invites young people 0-17 to read and read and read some more. You can participate in Game On! at any Austin Public Library location. The process is as simple as falling off a log. Here’s all you have to do:

  1. Beginning June 1, pick up a reading log at your
    local Austin Public Library Branch.
  2. Decide how many books you plan to read this
summer, and write your goal on your log (if
you're not reading yet, have your grown-up
make a plan and read to you - that counts, too!).
  3. Read.
  4. Record your titles (along with your opinions
about them) on your reading log. If you fill
up your reading log, come on back and pick
    up another.
  5. Bring your completed Reading Log to your local
library by August 31 and choose a book to keep!
You're welcome to complete as many reading
records as you want to, but one book-to-keep
    per reader, please.
  6. Keep the reading record as a reminder of your
    summer reading success.

As if that weren’t reason enough to hang out at your local Austin Public Library Branch, we’ve got a stadium’s worth of programs planned for everyone from toddlers to teens, with something special at every location every week. You'll find a complete schedule of events in this very Bridge!

We invite you to suit up for a summer of reading fun, and join us as we round the bases and slide into a home run of reading.
